Big performance issue with Killing Floor on intel integrated graphics (945gm) and a few minor bugs
Not even getting 1 fps (seems more like a frame every 3 or 4 seconds) on the lowest settings possible.
I've managed to play it on windows at acceptable framerates (although hardly reaching above 30-40 fps) on low settings.
No lag in the main menu, until I load a single player game.
I'm using Ubuntu 12.04.1 and x-swat driver. Using "classic" gnome desktop (no unity, shell, ...) and no compiz.
Sytem details at the end of this post.

***To be clear, I know that it's normal that this computer can't handle many games but I've been able to play Killing Floor on Windows at 20-30 fps which is enough for short sessions. I was surprised it worked so slow on the opengl version***

Other minor problems :
- Changing resolution hangs the game and I can't alt-tab out of it (see later point). Have to close the X session with keyboard combination (alt+printscreen+k).
- Can't alt-tab out of the game, fullscreen or windowed, it doesn't matter.
- Main menu started flickering pretty fast once but I haven't been able to reproduce that issue.

Well I played it with my i5 3570k's HD4000 Intel graphics solution and it ran nearly very fluid. Only at big hordes with many explosions it starts to get very low in FPS :-)

But this happens with my AMD HD6850 too lol

Maybe some optimization issues which need to get worked on. But I bet they will do a good job :-)

What's your cpu?

no offense intended, but it doesn't really matter what you do. An Intel generation 3.5 chip has virtually no chance of reaching playable framerates. Good luck to you

I know that this chip is horrible but it's for the inevitable comparison with Windows. I've played a few times with "good" framerates.

So I was curious at how the linux port would handle it. To be honest I expected the performance to be poor but this is catastrophic.

One of the early dual-core processors. I'm not sure on the exact model though. This computer is quite old.

I have an intel HD 3000, and I got decent FPS on low to medium settings on a super low resolution (well until I had 30 or so enemies on screen). I'm going to try it out with the x-swat driver in a little bit.

You could try adding this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa
These are the most bleeding-edge packages and it would install Mesa 9.1-devel, however, it could easily screw up your system, so do it at your own risk.

With Intel HD Graphics (Not 2000, 3000 or 4000) I get more FPS with Ubuntu. Running at 1366 x 786 set to Medium Graphics I get 40-50fps. To clarify my laptop has an Intel i3 570m with 4gbs of RAM. On Windows 7 I get 30-45. Both with the latest drivers.

If he reaches 20-30 FPS in Windows but less than 1 in Linux, obviously something is going very wrong, so it's only good of Tubes to report. Plus the efficiency of the rest of Linux may make this game reach more above 30 FPS once the bottlenecks are resolved.

I believe my old netbook has an Intel 945GM... I'm going to be performing some tests with it today or tomorrow.

I've thought about that but since this is a computer I use kinda often, I'd rather not take the risk.

Yeah, well it's plyable in Windows OP said. So please, completely read the post before making such blunt statements.

I'm getting the right amount of fps with 4500MHD and 1.2ghz dual core cpu. it works to me as it should. anyway this is my opinion: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=ubuntu_1210beta_desktops&num=2
