Voice input problems in TF2 on Debian Wheezy

I am having troubles with voice, my webcam is off through the game and turns it on to talk, this lags the game and takes to long. TF2 needs to keep the input device turned on throughout the game to solve this. I can open my mixer before playing as a workaround. This however still lags the game a bit when I press talk for some reason.

Using a microphone instead of a webcam would make more sense as a workaround.
