Recommended version of ubuntu for steam?
On what version of ubuntu steam is more stable as of now? I'm going to install ubuntu on my laptop and I want to try steam on it. I've installed ubuntu on it before with no trouble, but I couldn't get steam to work properly on it last time. Since there seem to be issues depending on the version I wanted to know what would be the best one to get. Thanks in advance.

You should be fine with the newest version ... just be prepared, you might experience a bit of hassle with AMD graphics cards. AMD graphics card drivers are improving fast, therefore, no need to change the card, if.

Running fine on Ubuntu 14.04 here with the latest Catalyst 14.4 fglrx drivers from AMD's site.

Make sure you get the latest driver for your system https://i.imgur.com/mDY6Md1.png

also, make sure you don't upgrade the kernel to anything above 3.13 when using the AMD proprietary driver until there's a new driver release.

I don't remember which thread I read this in but there is a beta amd driver that just came out recently that you might want to try.

I have had no problems with it so far on Xubuntu 14.04

Any version since 12.04 should be fine. I continuously upgraded and am now on 14.04.
I had very bad experiences with the AMD drivers in the past and have used NVidia cards because of that (even though I would have prefered AMD since they started supporting the open source drivers - but so does NVidia since last year). But from what I read AMD drivers seem to be improving lately.

Oh, forgot to report back. I installed 14.04 and I've been using in-home streaming, works great :D
