Steam for Linux

SteamCMD won't update
Using the latest version of Ubuntu x64.

Steam installs and runs fine but for whatever reason, Steamcmd.sh always yields the following:

Redirecting stderr to '/home/p2/.local/share/Steam/logs/stderr.txt'
ILocalize::AddFile() failed to load file "public/steambootstrapper_english.txt".

Brand new Ubuntu install to keep it simple. Oddly enough, using the exact same set up on my windows PC on a VM works.

I've already updated my Iptables. Not sure what else to try.

Any suggestions?
