Help with getting my dual shock 3 to work!!
So I've been trying to get my dual shock to work as an xbox controller back when I was using windows I was using motionjoy and ds3 better but now that I'm using linux I have to find a different way. First I tried xboxdrv the player 1 light would light up for a second and then it would go off and the controller wouldn't work so I went and looked up the problem and it told me to install these "header, all, and image packages" so I downloaded them and used "sudo dpkg -i linux-header.deb" (say I was trying to install the header file" and my terminal would give me a messsage saying it couldn't find the file so I would open the file in the software center which would tell me the file didn't exist. So I moved on and tried QTSixA which I also couldn't get working. I tried installing it through the terminal and it couldn't find the package so then I tried to install the package through downloading it, I opened the instructions and followed theem but again the terminal couldn't find thee packages I was supposeed to install. If any of you know of any otheer programs that do the same thing or how I can fix my current problem I would greatly appreciate it!

Oh also I'm using zorin which is based off ubuntu so if it works on ubuntu it'll likely work on zorin

Sounds like you forgot to add the repo first. In the terminal:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:falk-t-j/qtsixa

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install libusb-dev libusb-0.1-4

sudo apt-get install sixad

sudo sixpair

sixad --start
So I put in sudo apt-add-repository ppa:falk-t-j/qtsixa

and I get this from the terminal "Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/apt-add-repository", line 91, in <module>
sp = SoftwareProperties(options=options)
File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/softwareproperties/SoftwareProperties.py", line 109, in __init__
self.reload_sourceslist()
File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/softwareproperties/SoftwareProperties.py", line 599, in reload_sourceslist
self.distro.get_sources(self.sourceslist)
File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/aptsources/distro.py", line 89, in get_sources
(self.id, self.codename))
aptsources.distro.NoDistroTemplateException: Error: could not find a distribution template for Ubuntu/n/a"

which is the same problem I was having earlier when trying to install qtsixa

Check that your system date is set correctly, and if it is, try this:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall ca-certificates

sudo apt-get update

Then try to add the repository again. The issue you're running into is with the ceritificate chain of trust, I believe.
I tried what you said twice in fact and I'm still receiving the same message from the terminal when I try to add the repository
Oops, didn't read your full error output.. My bad. "NoDistroTemplateException" implies that there isn't a build for your distro, so you can either switch distros or compile from source.
ugh.... I guess I'll just have to switch distros then won't I. As I have no idea how to compile from source thanks for your help.
You could try another package manager, it may work, but I'm not familiar with zorin so I really don't know. Does it have Synaptic or something similar? That's what I would probably try first.
If it's a fresh install and you're relatively new to Linux, you might have an easier time with Ubuntu or SteamOS. Your call, of course, bu I have a hunch those are the distros most widely used with Steam.
Yeah I'm pretty new to Linux I decided on zorin cause it was supposed to be a lot like windows 7 which is the os I knew best. But I guess I made the wrong decision lol thanks for you help and I think I'll switch to Ubuntu
It gives this error with the newest steam OS. Ubuntu specific installation is here, nothing that works with SteamOS.

Looks like you can manuall update /etc/apt/sources.list to include "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/falk-t-j/qtsixa/ubuntu devel main"
$sudo sixpair
$sudo sixad
then unplugging usb and pushing the PS button
also worked for pairing but even though I see the controller from qtsixa, it doesn't work in Steam using bluetooth. Maybe it needs a controller profile mapped/customized?
