That's actually not true. The gel roads are slightly faster than the paved roads but the difference isn't really significant over short distances.

That's what I thought...it's just so counterintuitive to have the cheaper roads also be better.

Cheaper roads? It's 1 gel 1 stone for a gel road and 2 stone for a paved road right? I mean, it has been a while since i've bothered to play the game so I don't remember their shop values but I do know that while not a rare material, gel is a far more limited material than stone.

You usually end up with a plentiful supply of stone just digging out shortcuts in the dungeon. You end up with far too much stone when you go hunting materials to put your mineshafts on. Hell, if you end up using a ridiculous amount of stone there is even "dense stone" you can put mineshafts on to give you an endless supply of stone. As such, i've always thought of gel as the more valuable material since you can only replenish your supply for as long as gels last.

Not a problem if you have sieges turned on and the gels will often be even more common than stone in your early development but without sieges turned on you could easily run into a shortage in the long run.

Gel roads require gel or flowers. Pavement requires colors and more stone. And yea, stone is generally plentiful, but pavement takes at least twice as long to make because of the process of picking up two stone instead of one as well as creating colors out of gell or flowers. Still, in most games, if there are two utility items that have the same function, normally the more expensive one is an upgrade of some kind.

Gel roads can be made out of flowers? Well, that certainly changes things. Flowers are a 100% replenishable supply so I guess it's quite a bit easier to make gel roads. As for the colors, there are two versions of paved roads that don't require color so that part only matters if you really don't like the look of those two versions.

I usually just go for the white pavement road cause it looks good enough to me and i'm too lazy to make colors just for roads. Next time I play I guess i'll just have to add a flower garden to my town so I can always make as many gel roads as I want. Or just actually use up all the gel that typically ends up filling containers in my town.
