Continuing the game - a programmers call
First, i have to say that i love this genre. I love this game, and i love Dwarf Fortress. what i want to know is since they have ceased development, is there anyway we the fans can pick it up? i want to work on this, if not now; in the future.

It would be nice if we could contact xavi (the main and now only dev) somehow to try and ask him to release the code so community can continu to work on it. I mean it could even bring him more $$$ (as he is only interested in that), looks at dayZ that made arma so popular (need to have it to play the mod), or dota, that did same thing for warcraft3

The source is a mess though.

I'm no programmer but as I understand it, without direct access to the source code it would take an extremely long time to make even the smallest changes. Since the community isn't likely to ever get access to that, I wouldn't bother getting my hopes up in that regard.

Well the good thing about not getting updated anymore, means that the files which a player could mod are now constant. So there is some limited modding available in those files, and it could be interesting to share them. For example, I don't like the limit of 10 items in these storage chests, so I turned it into 32 or 64 items. Also, the food satisfaction or hunger time was not what I liked, so I changed that too.

It could be a way to get around a few limitations, seeing as we may not ever get a 'balance' update to the game anymore.
