I've put 2 and 2 together and gotten six?
So I just got RPG Maker VX ace. Like seriously just today. How fitting that the one foil card I have is the one that represents noobs. I have a bunch of enemies lined up, and I'm really pysched to start battling, yet I can't figure out how to make enemies spawn.

If anyone could help me out, I'd llike to figure out three things.

1. I have a bunch of enemies, yet none of them show up? I think I'm just doing it wrong. I made an event and I tried using the "Enemy Appear..." thing. Yet none of my enemies show up! Just blank numbers. I know that the game know they are there, when I use enemy transform they show up as options. Yet I can't make a scripted attack sequence.

2. Random spawning. My word. I can't figure this out either.

3. I can't figure out sequencing, like triggers and switches and the like.

The extent of my programming knowledge is Warioware DIY and a bit of messing around with scratch. VIdeo tutorials would be appreciated.

What about tutorials in the form of a game? Here's one that will help you immensely. 4 hours gameplay and you learn everything about events. Just play it and thank Dread (who made it) later.

Thanks, I'll give it a try and get back to you on it.

And look on my profile there are adresses upon RedWeaver Tutorial Town if you are visual and the project is in the Steam workshop too if you like to take a look upon it that one is about trying to make a game from scrath in less than 30 days for those who have the demo.

And also got the link for some good on-line book that roughly does the same if you are more step by step reader than visual.

And true Dread is a magnificient teacher (I think all his programming students graduated recently) and when he made Events (the tutorial eventing game) it was in less than 30 days for a contest! :D

Also, for a how to question galore and tutorial collection there is the sticky Before You Post (Anti-Spam Tread) here and... Even with me who starts to know how stuff works I STILL get in a digital world of wonder when I dive in that tread.

Thumbs up to Marquise. Tumis24 you have everything you need to start and make good games. Have fun mate and if you need anything else, ask.

Oh and Tumis24, don't get pressed by the quantity over quality imperative. There is a kinda boring (but how important true and bringing up reflexions) sticky in here about dreams of wanting our game to be the MOST EPIC ever -gah my memory fails me again on the exact title-.

But basically, whatever you do for your game, have a feeling to be playing on it kinda. Every aspect. Trying not being a biggest name, competitor, shark around. So all the smallest sweetest functions will appear to you as a new game element that you can discover a new universe of tutorials and possibilities to do with it! ^^

I suggest anyone doing their hourly game room/aspect a day. (and yeah since I do graphics, and my situation... I am stucked in Photoshop and Custom Housing! for a bit) ;)

1. Make sure that you not only have created your Enemies in your Database, but have created a troop under the Troop tab consisting of your enemy team layout: 1 slime, 2 slimes, 2 slimes and a bat, etc. These troops can be called by an event using the Battle Processing command.

2. Random encounters on a map can be set in Map Properties in that right hand area. Set the troops you want to be encounters (and also the region number if you wish to have certain area of the same map not have encounters or different encounters) and also set the approximate step distance between encounters. I tend to assume that whatever number you put for average steps -10 is about the actual amount of distance between random enccounters that occurs.

I figured 2. out as much. Thanks for that first bit though. TOTALLY MISSED THAT!

I don't know if anyone moderates these posts, but I'm good to go now, so if you want to, you can close the thread. I don't know if it's possible, but if it is, go ahead.
