HalfLife 2 crashes on startup

Hello all,

I recently joined steam, and am using a Toshiba Satellite laptop with an integrated graphics card and Windows Vista. I recently purchased The Orange Box, mainly to play TF2. Both TF2 and portal run rather well, with respectable graphics settings.

I have, however, been having a lot of problems getting Half Life 2 to run correctly. It will proceed through the Valve intro and get to the blurred loading screen. But then it will crash to the desktop before it gets to the menu screen.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it hasn't helped. I would greatly appreciate the assistance!

I also set -dxlevel 70. It didn't do anything.

this happpened to me, removing the launch options i had set solved it for me.

could you direct me to the launch options? i seem to be having the same crashing problem
