Portal and half life connection

I have not actually played the half life seriess and played a bit of portal. I was doing a bit of research on wiki about half life 2 and wikipeadia said that "Her mother, Azian Vance, who is of Asian descent, can be seen in a family photograph appearing in the games but died during the Black Mesa incident" The character in portal you play is an asian women. Could portal be a prequeal of half life. Just wondering.

Ive played all of portal(2) and some of half life 2, you completly right about there being a connection. Actually Aperture science and Black Mesa were competetors. However, close to the end of portal 2 you figure out who chells parents are (or at least her mom) and Im sorry to say, It is not azian vance. That would have been a cool connection though :)
(Also dont quote me on this stuff, alot of it is contreversial and I may be getting things confused)
