For all we know Gordon can talk but we just don't hear him. Kind of like how Shephard and Barney talk but we don't hear anything.

I wish in half life 3 gordon would say something and we can hear his voice.mabe it should be an easter egg?

Except making him talk would break the immersion Valve had been setting up since Half-Life 1.

Well he talks but in your head can't you hear him..... I can.

Personally, I don't think that Gordon (or Chell) are mute. Chell because who can she talk to? You never see another human in the Portal series. Gordon I think can talk but it would totally ruin the feeling of Half Life series. Valve wants to make it seem like the characters are speaking to YOU. Glad to help, babyavery.

what immersion? If valve wanted to make us feel like gordon, why would they make him such an established character? he has a backstory, iconic appearance and everything, yet they make it like he is supposed to let us make his backstory when he has one already. i think they should have went the route of Bioshock were the main character of the first game, Jack, has a very, very vauge backstory, but has just enough to make us feel like we are him. I think the only time a character had a large backstory but was still relateable was Lee Everett from The Walking Dead game.

well he is mute to us but he obviously spoke at one point to tell people his name and to get to work at black mesa

haven't played any of the games, but i'm guessing that the true reason why Gordon doesn't talk (or let us hear him talk) in the original game, was because he works at a top-secret facility, and their rules must have something where they can't discuss their research off-duty. I don't know, just taking a wild guess at the moment.

It's because his penis is too big.

Me too, you mean some of you can't hear Gordon???

It's very simple. Gordon's way more than a theoretical physicist. He's a crowbar-packing freaking superhero commando ninja...you know, like Snake Eyes from G.I. Joe- the guy who is also mute (but who lacks a crowbar and a Ph.D.).

Gordon's a man of action and a scientific wizard. He's like Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock rolled up in one- he's awesome and logical.

Also, Gordon only has to look at Alyx and she's all self-conscious.

And people flock to follow him (or rather, get in his way). They all want to brag, "I got to tell Gordon Freeman to reload! And he did!"

He's the man.

He screams in the chapter Power Up when the gargantua's stomping about causes a walkway to collapse. If your on it at the time you'll hear him scream as he falls. ...he's old school, pre-special snowflake

Lol, I always thought that was a scientist screaming... AND IT IS. Don't you think that "scream" is like those screams made by the bald scientist in hl1?
redfungus 19/mar./2014 às 9:44
He doesn't talk, but he does make sound. Taken fall damage in HL1? The sound you hear is Gordon grunting from the fall.

didnt Glados say at the end of portal 2 "you mute lunatic" ?

Duke Nukem in Duke Nukem 3D talks all the time and that game is fairly immersive. Of course that's just a bunch of one-liners making fun of aliens who probably can't understand a word he's saying anyways! But still it wouldn't hurt the game if Gordon Freeman were to talk.
