Source games freeze when loading main menu

I don't think something like this has happened to me before. This started yesterday when I decided to play Black Mesa Source again (I haven't played it in a few months). It looks as if it is loading like normal but then my loading cursor changes to a normal cursor at which point I know it froze. When I bring up the task manager, it says its not responding. Then I go on to try Half Life 2 and Episode 2: same problem. Thanks in advance for your help.

no help has been given yet , so ur welcome, but that hapens to me too , all i do is be pationt and wait for the game to load without disrupting it or doing anything else

Its not the length of the loading screens thats the problem. Its the fact that it freezes and stops responding (forcing me to open task manager and end the process) thats the problem. I have an i5 Quad-Core processor with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 650 graphics card and before this happened, all the Source engine games worked perfectly fine.
