I think the problem is that HL2 requires you to look up and down and left and right alot as you search for secrets or search for the solution to a particular puzzle. Even though TF2 gets crazy, most of the time you are focused on a single target in the distance. It's like how looking out the side of a car can make some ppl motion sick. HL2 requires you to look across the surfaces of everything more. Having to look around at things in the airboat may have made it worse also.
Looking online, this isn't just me. A lot of ppl have this problem with HL2, and most of them usually say the same thing: FPSes have never been a problem.
Motion sickness or not, I'm loving the game. FOV 90 is much nicer than 75.
Newer games ported from consoles often have a FOV of less than 75.
I swear in Half Life 2 after getting your hazard suit it would finally let you change fov with fov_desired, but it seems that they changed it so you can no longer change it after getting the hazard suit (90deg+ that is.)
What I don't understand is that it's disabled even in single player with sv_cheats 1. Why? You're not cheating anyone else, nor getting achievements, so why disable it even in this case?
Ya rendering a higher FOV than what your monitor(s) take up of your eye FOV is going to be warped, but some people are willing to deal with the warp for the benefits of higher FOV.
