Proteus
'Wilder generation of islands' setting... NOT an april fools joke :P
When you first beat Proteus, three new options are unlocked:
One affects length of days, from 15 to 60 minutes. Note that '15 minutes' actually means day itself is 7min 30sec, and night is 7min 30sec, for example.
A second unlocked options affects whether you can see the swirling lights near the stone circle on each season's first night or not, basically making it harder to locate.
Both these options need the game reset when changed to take effect (meaning you'd have to save your island to a postcard), but the third and last unlocked setting only happens at the start of a new island.

'Wilder generation' seems to have the following effects:
Everything in the game, including the sky, the water, the ground, the trees, may have really exotic and surreal color possiblities, like purple water and green sky and blue trees in summer.
The geology and geography of the island becomes less 'simple' and more erratic, resulting in things like many inland lakes and much taller mountains.
The placement of plants and landmarks can be more odd too, like multiple landmarks super close to each other.
It also seems to increase variety of sounds and colors that the animals have, though I'm not 100% sure that's related to 'wilder generation' yet.

So basically with wilder setting, if you want an especially exotic and strange island, choose 'definitely', but if you'd like a more serene realistic looking place, pick 'never', or you can stick with the default 'maybe'. :)

I really like the option. It's amazing how just changing the color of the sky at night (for example) can have such an effect on the whole feel.
