Windows 8 - Stay away from Hotline Miami?

I've been reading comments scattered among the forum regarding Hotline Miami crashing on Windows 8.

I run Windows 8 Pro 64 - am I out of luck?

It crashes now and then for me, but not often. I think it's fine on W8.

Yes, stay away. I can't cemplete level 10, always crashes sooner or later. Chapter 6 was problematic also and according to the devs it's because they used an old version of GameMaker so there's no easy fix.

@Kosma: How far are you in the game?

Its not windows 8 i can run the game. All tho im stuck on The chapter named HOT & HEAVY theres too much glass windows and it crashes everytime a large ammount of windows are broken i havent been able to complete this chapter cause enemies break the damn windows .

Interesting, I was wondering what exactly triggers the crash and yes, it's too many broken windows. Let's see if I can get through lvl10 despite this....

I can't complete chapter 10 either. It's locking up in the third room of the mission, every time.

I'm on Windows 8, don't know if that's the cause of it..

Same here on chapter 10. Didn't know it had to do with the glass shattering though.
But Windows 8 pops up an error message and I have to start the game again.

ok, thanks for this thread... we think it might have to do with the game playing to many soundeffects (the glass shattering) and that cause the freeze. for some reason this seems to be a problem just for win8 but we will change the code so the game has a limit to how many sounds that can be played at the same time! this is asap and will be updated when it's done! stay with us and thanks for the thread!

in the meantime if you want to skip hot and heavy (or other levels that cause this problem) just open the SAVES.DAT in the steam folder of hotline miami and change the 2nd rows 0s to 1s.. 1s being cleared stages so to skip hot and heavy just make the first 0 in the line into a 1 and run the game!

Interesting... I'm so tempted, I just don't want my experience ruined by constant crashing.

i skipped hot and heavy but the level immediately after has a lot of glass too and therefore and the same issues. i'm gonna end up skipping the whole game at this rate

No, compatibility mode didn't fix it for me.

Same here on windows 8. Tried uninstalling. I got steam just to get this game.
