Xbox 360 wireless controller retro selection issues

I can't find any other topics like this, is anyone else having this issue?

When I unlock a retro level, I get the prompt to hit Y on the map to enter it. However, hitting Y doesn't seem to do anything other than produce a "click" noise. I'm definitely on the right node, is there something that I'm missing here?

I have a wireless X360 controller and hitting Y to play retro works fine for me.
