To be fair the beginning part before the hard boss is about two levels worth or more of ♥♥♥♥. You lose all your lives your back to the beginning. This ♥♥♥♥ was okay when games had to be hard so they were worth the money back in the day but now this is just completely stupid. I enjoy myself some hard games. I don't enjoy how long this level is and how they expect you to get through all of it with three or so lives. I want to play the well designed difficult parts. But doing this is just artificial difficulty.
Those are bonus unlocks for the sequel, Bionic Commando. When you install BC, the game scans for existing BC:R savefile and unlocks retro costume and/or prototype pistol, if you have previously obtained them.
