Think Civ 5 with magic, demons and dragons but no workers as all improvements are done through cities or outposts.
As for combat, think turn based total war. You play on the big map, but fight on a small map

Pros; unique, decent graphics, customizeable everything (heroes, factions, armies, cities, etc), epic quests that can make game addictive and very replayable when you start out
Cons; diplomacy is a joke, AI will cheat, repetitive once you figure out the winning formula, stardocks idiotic DRM policy
It's an ok game if you are into turn based empire building strategy. I'd wait for a sale though.
