OGRE Exception error

Just tried downloading the demo and it didn't start so I did what another thread suggested and went in and installed the oalinst install file. Now I get the following message:

OGRE Exception(7:InternalErrorException): Could not load dynamic library. \RenderSystem_Direct3D9.
System Error: The specified module could not be found.
in DynLib::load at ..\..\..\..\OgreMain\src\OgreDynLib.cpp (line 91)

I am currently running Windows 8 Home 64-bit.

I think I got something similar to that on Win7Pro64 when I ran the boxed version of the game without admin rights (I installed it with admin rights, I think); the steam version runs fine even without admin rights, under the same user account.
