Why does 'sending data to leaderboards' take so long?

I find myself waiting for data to be sent to leaderboards more than I'm playing the game.
30 seconds to complete the update, last time I measured it.
What's taking so long?
Is there any way to skip it?

I remember it being so fast when there were a hundred people on it. Now it takes forever.

I would also like to skip leaderboards - I am playing just for fun and do not have any friends that play the game so that I can compare to.
As Psymon said, it takes long enough to notice. And it gives you a very bad experience.

Adding my voice to this. Even aside from the bugs with them, I don't care about the leaderboards at all, and it takes way too long to upload scores to them. Please add a way to disable leaderboard uploads.

Me aswell. Or at least something more understandable. I mean, now it uploads everything you do to the Leaderboards. For example, i complete a map in 10secs. Then later i play it for fun and complete in 2 mintues. Why is that uploaded, only the Best should be uploaded, else it doesn´t make much sense.
