As far as I know, Edmund McMillen hates linux. So don't hold your breath. Use WINE if possible.

I guess there is some work else to do, for instance integrate the steam works API, but I'd love to see this game running on steam.

He doesn't hate Linux, also he doesn't do programming so complaining at him won't work, if you are going to complain go complain to the right people first. Finally, the reason most of his games aren't on Lunux is because it is not worth the work considering how little they would make back.

then why do other indie game makers make linux ports?

there aren't any linux games BECAUSE there are no linux gamers BECAUSE there aren't any linux games BECAUSE there aren't any linux gamers....

The main and sometimes only reason devs usually do a Linux port is because they have the time and it will financially benefit them, or if there game is going to be in a Humble Indie Bundle, the Basement Collection in its current state would not benefit at all and if you were looking to do gaming then you probably shouldn't pick Mac or Linux, you should go for PC and then when games start to become more common switch to other platforns. Currently PC sells the majority of copies by miles then Mac and then finally Linux with a very small number. Only fairly recently has Mac become somewhat of a viable market for games.
