There's a demo. Go try it.
I tried the demo. It's ok. But it's not good with a keyboard.
Maybe the actual game has control selection but what I saw was just a controller and you could swap buttons around. Not actually make the W key do this, or the A key do that.

So I won't get it just because of that frustration, but it may be fine for you or others. The graphics are good though.
I have the original Japanese version. The game's amazing, though there's certain levels that have major diffculty ramps. Those can get annoying. I'll be buying the steam version when winter sales start coming up.

As a note though, it's very arcadey. Don't expect to be traveling a world Skyrim style or anything. It's a beat em up with rpg elements.

LOL, it's 8 bucks on Steam, are you really gonna wait for a sale to get it even cheaper?

Why not? It's not like he (or she) is missing out on anything but a translation that he (or she) may not even need.

Then again, I went and bought eXceed 3rd as soon as it hit Steam, and I do have the Japanese disk of that from quite some time ago.

Sounds like Odin Sphere/Muramasa. Accurate comparison?

Do you buy up everything which is priced $8 en-masse? I have 30 AAA games in my wishlist that I buy from time to time when I receive my salary, so why would I want to spend $8 more for a little arcade instead of waiting for winter sale, while having 100500 more games in library to complete before winter (and for 3 more years in surplus)?
I just tried the game. I kinda like its visuals, and the combat is pretty good, but being confined to a single screen is big let down for me. I think I won't buy it right now.

You're not confined to a single screen, the arena changes every five days after the boss.

I really like the game - I beat it on normal mode, but there's still a lot of stuff to unlock in the gallery, so it's time to try harder!

IMO, you have to like brawler type games. I'm also a gamepad nut, I don't do well with KB/M setups. This game was practially designed for a gamepad, you can easily tweak the mapping in the options menu. It's kinda like Smash Bros. The only part I'm having trouble with is linking special moves with combos, there's enough time delay between that I get my butt kicked. Otherwise, it's totally worth the $8. If the maps were larger and the movement a little smoother, I'd probably pay somewhere between $15 and $25 for this game, depending on content and enemy variety.
Yeah, this game definitely lends itself to a gamepad. having attack, special attack, jump, and block just isn't something my hand wants to do on a keyboard all at once. I mean, yeah, I could learn to use my pinky, but that just doesn't feel natural to me (although, I didn't try setting SPA to ctrl, that might have worked out okay). With a gamepad (PS2 in this case) I used the D-pad for movement have x as jump, square as attack, R1 for special attack, and L1 for block, so everything is very easily accessable at all times.
As far as special moves are concerned, so far I mostly just stick with the basic magic shot and add it on top of my basic attacks for extra DPS since it has no casting animation and can be shot at the same time as you do basics.

Arcadey as all hell, yeah, but totally worth it.

I personally love it. I like beat-em-ups with cool mechanics, the ability to do flashy combos and some JRPG elements. This game has all that stuff and some level of technicality to it as well. Definitely enjoyable. Of course, you can check the demo if you're having second thoughts.

Nope. More like a traditional 2D side-scrolling fighting game but with... actually, think Guardian Heroes.
Does someone know how many days there are in this game? (Or just how long it will take for someone to beat this game) Can't seem to find in anywhere on the internet. :(
