Annoying static

ok i,m running this game on w7..when i originally bought it at release i had no probs playing..but because its ten yr old i suppose we are goin to have a few hiccups.my hiccup is static in the sound.music is playing then in my headphones i get a blast of static...is there any way around this or can i stop this in anyway..thanks in advance..p.s..this is still one of the best games of all time.
