How to lower the graphical quality?
I am not playing this on a gaming PC. I am using a Windows 7 laptop, and I could care less about the graphics as long as I can enjoy this game at a decent framerate. It takes four seconds in real time for one second on the in-game clock to pass sometimes. It is honestly that bad. Is there something I can do to lower the graphical quality?

They optimized this game very poorly, I'm abut to email them about this.

Just installed it on a better computer. I hate that I will have to hack the game and/or it's conifiguration tool just to play it at a decent frame rate. Believe me, I would if I could.

I contacted them and they said they'll consider my request(to put out a patch).

Really? I tried this game on a netbook from 2010 which can be quite slow, and it worked just about as well as my much more powerful computers. I think of this game as a very light game. I did have some awful lag on integrated graphics on a PC from about 2006, though.

try Dling the dreamcast models which have lower poly counts.
Go to Sonic Retro's Sa2 modding thread and look for the page that has the link for the DC models or Go to Sonic hacker, Main Memory's website.

My anti-spyware is super sensitive on both my computers, so I will hold off on executing that idea. Thank you for submitting it.

I'm having this same problem with framerates. When I bought this a few months ago I was able to run the game incredibly smoothly, but coming back now I can hardly play it. Has a patch been released recently for it? That might be a problem. As for the graphics, as said before this isn't a very cpu intensive game. I think the framerates issue might be due to an internal error rather than graphics (but I don't know enough about this stuff to be sure =P).

EDIT- Right after posting this I found a post that said to use Fullscreen rather than Windowed. It worked wonders! Are you running this in Windowed mode by any chance? It's worth a shot!

Thank you for replying. I thought your fullscreen rather than windowed comment was quite interesting. I will try it in my free time, probably before I try downloading any Dreamcast models. I have a working system of using this one computer for the game, rather than the more easily accessible one.

Guys, trust me, SEGA sucks at optimizing anything for PCs. And I have crystal clear evidence that all they do is copy-paste their games' Xbox 360 versions. Just look at the games themselves, they have Xbox 360 controller button images, they have Xbox 360 controller images, THEY ONLY WORK WITH XBOX 360 CONTROLLERS OR KEYBOARD. I have a laptop with Intel Core i3 1st generation, and Sonic Adventure 2/S4Ep2 sucks with it. SA2 plays like in slow motion yet goes all-out 60 FPS on certain areas. Episode 2 lags at menus and has controls with horrible delay times. I'm not sure if that's the video card's fault or the game itself.
Oh, and DON'T expect a patch for it. Patching a game is the last thing SEGA would do in the whole eternity. Plus, they do horrible configuration tools for the games. Whenever they do a MEDIOCRE configuration tool which is a BASIC for PC games, they raise the prices slightly. Sonic Generations is on the 30 dollars - R$50 while other games are less than 10 bucks/R$20... Besides ASR Transformed. Noticed the pattern here? ASRT and Generations have true configuration tools, and are the most expensive Sonic games on Steam.

tl;dr don't expect anything good for Steam from SEGA.

NOTE: I understand my video card/processor is truly weak, and from 2010, but how can't it run a 2001 game (SA2) properly? WHAT THE HELL, SEGA???

In case you didn't know, the xbox controller is the best one for PC anyway so your point is pretty much invalid on that subject. I never had an issue with a sega game on steam once, either.

One big issue with the configuration utility for SA2 is that you often have to set Player 2's controls to something bogus before setting Player 1's controls how you want. It's really cheap. I do not have an Xbox 360 game controller, so that is not an option for me.

Want to know how much a Xbox 360 controller costs here in Brazil? R$100 - 150.
That's right: The same price for a console game.
Now you should ask yourself: WHO THE HELL WOULD BUY A SIMPLE CONTROLLER FOR R$150 WHEN YOU CAN BUY A SIMPLE CONTROLLER FOR R$20 - 30?
Geez, why can't they just make any controllers compatible with their games? Is that too much to ask? Yes, it is. Cause they will waste a small bit of extra money on it, so if they were to do that, they'd raise the game price from R$15 to R$50. That's just a sample of SEGA's stupidness. You never had an issue with a SEGA game on Steam once most likely because you live in the US and have enough money to buy a good PC. A good PC may cost $200 or 300 at your countries, but over here, it costs R$1,000 - 3,000.
They just don't care about it, all they want is our money. And if they truly care about the fans, they would have released Phantasy Star Online 2 in English already. -_-

Even I, in the US, can agree that SEGA's Steam games are problematic.

I never ever had to set a player 2 setup to set the player 1's controls... The games are only problematic to people with cheap PCs as far as I noticed. I don't know if they only care about money but I personally love playing their games so yeah. Not trying to sound mean but that's how it works.

As for PSO2, it's very irrelevant with this discussion. You should know by now that Japan always gets most games first and that the rest of the world has to be very patient for their own versions.
