First Jump Dead
I have 67 hours into this game. I've beaten the boss, well not many, but a few times. And now I just died on my first jump in Sector One.

Using the Osprey, I jumped into an asteroid field with an automated drone ship. The automated ship had a MK II burst laser and a hermes missile, plus a beam drone. Right away, the asteroids knocks down the shield and the beam drone kills the first aid station. A second asteroid does red damage on my weapons bay before I can fire the first shot. There's two fire, so I send the mantis to fix the medbay and the rockman to put out the fire. Before the rockman can do his job, asteroid three hits him and breaches the room. The beam drone does orange damage to the shield. The enemy ship hits engineering, which catches fire. Maybe four more asteroid hits on empty rooms, with breaches and/or fires, and that's all she wrote.

25 big points!

Get used to this. It's not uncommon. There are various set-ups that can shred you to pieces in seconds. Pretty much anything with a drone and bomb combo is brown pants time. Hell even a bomb alone can wreck you if it hits the right systems.
I've got better. Using the Engi-B. First jump, giant spiders. Thought "A, what the hell"
Lost a crewmember, only had 1 crewmember... GG
Haha! I've had this kind of thing before.
BTW, Bombsquad, I was just about to post the EXACT same thing!
I hate how the enemies pull burst 2's, ion 2's, artemises, and dual lasers out of their asses like nothing while you will usually get none of those on some runs and for some you can only get as a starting weapon.

Well, giant spiders are no joke. And you're right, your pathetic first jump death is worse than mine. I'd do the same thing, though... well maybe not with the Engi B. But dying in Sector One means getting it all over with just that much faster.
I've had this happen multiple times using the Noether. Since it doesn't have any shields, if you ever waste any time taking down their shields with your ions (I was trying to farm weapons exp), you can get stuck and they'll take down too many systems before you can recover.

I once met Slaver with Engi-B, and I pressed 1 to ready my ion.

Then I reliezed I just sent my only crew to slavers.....
I don´t know what is worse: On the first jump or in the first sector with the last jump :-))
Both happens a lot :ftlhuman:
game is a bit of a crap shoot honestly, sometimes there just is no way to win.
The old Kobayashi Maru trick. The scary part of all that is that real life works the same way: it's a crap shoot and there is no way to win. But let's not dwell on that, shall we?

My very first jump in my very first game, encountered a Rebel fighter with a Burst Laser 2 and missiles, either in an asteroid field or it also had a drone, I don't remember which. I'd seen my roommate play the game, but I hadn't even learned what buttons do by that point, and was dead before I even fully comprehended what was going on.

My second game got past sector 5.
