What's your operating system? Are you turning on the controller mid game or before the game starts?

Sometimes the controller support will fail on certain hardware configurations, and crash. In this case you'll have to disable the controller support (http://offspringfling.com/ReadmeOnline.html#controller) to prevent the crashing. I also suggest running the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode to prevent other issues from popping up.

Fixed, setting compability mode to Windows 7 makes the wired X360 controller work.

This mehod works !!! i disable the controller with this method and use joy to key... Thanks!!!

Unfortunately the controller support is an extension that is not developed by me -- I'm just using it in the game. When that extension is updated to support Windows 8 controllers, I can update the game.

Sorry for the late reply: on windows 8 still yes.
I'm using an official microsoft wired gamepad and the game crashes on startup. Only solution currently is to disable support and then use joyToKey (which I really dislike).

I haven't tried this yet but it should be fine as I tested the game on windows 7 (same gamepad) and it worked just fine ;)
