Best way to get kill points in order to get more checkpoints?

I played this game a long time ago, and stopped playing at 4-3. First because I was raging too much, and a videogame is supposed to cause you quite the opposite. Second because the amount of checkpoints I was receiving were located too far apart between each other, and everytime I died I had to redo a large portion of the map PLUS collecting over and over again the same pages.
I played SMB and also stopped playing it thinking it was too hard, but since last week I played it, unlocked all characters, finished all the neg levels, and finished all of the dark levels ( except the cotton alley ones ). I want to play TBP again but I was wondering was the best way to kill enemies in order to get your checkpoint bar full sooner?

just try to perform longer combos, the better you play the more efficiently it replenishes the bar

Maybe I honed my platform skills when playing smb, but Im kinda having fun playing TBP. First I try to do all my kills by kicking and luring monsters towards spikes, saw wheels, etc ... just doing regular kills only when needed.
