Pro CoD players vs Pro Quake players
EDIT: there has been some confusion; i do not hate Call of Duty. This is more over an attack on all MMS FPS games.

My friend made this vid by the way to point out the ironic connection as to what qualifies a professional player in each game franchise, and any opinions are welcome. Let's also keep this topic civil, shall we? As the point of this thread is to not ignite a flamewar, but to send a message.

Cod is a game designed with as small of a skill ceiling as possible. this does not make for a competitive atmosphere.

Also competitive console game. Oh man, dat auto aim. so much skill.

Most of the PC centric games require more skill and are more enjoyable as a competitive title such as quake, dota, counterstrike, and StarCraft

CounterStrike seems like one of those games where if you understand all of the recoil patterns in each weapon, don't rush and stay with squadmates, you can pretty much beast from there on out. But still, an overall great game.

The great thing about Quake is that you can have all the bare essentials of the game down, but the game will always break any form of ego that you have.

Never played Starcraft or Dota.

They are all great gmaes with rich comptetitive scenes, billions of miles ahead of what Cod could hope to acheive.

dota had a 10 million dollar prize pool for the winner of this years international tournament hosted by valve, for example.

What message is this trying to send exactly? Each game that exists within E-Sports has it's own play style and formula behind it. So Call of Duty's is what the video portrays, is that supposed to be bad? It may not be as "rich" or elaborate as others, that doesn't make it any less valid. I don't see anyone complaining that Battlefield 4 has MLG tournaments and ladders. Hell, even Minecraft has a spot in E-sports.

The message I'm trying to send is on how dumbed down and easy FPS shooters are, and yes, that includes BF4.

Exactly my point. CoD is a joke, and functions the complete opposite of what a game should. A game, in my opinion, should not award you for being a good player by making you over powered with these killstreak rewards (or whatever they're called), nor should a game reward you for sucking.

My main beef with every MMS FPS out there that does this are perks, that you can assign to a class if you want to be more powerful. Why can't these perks (or powerups) be scattered around the map? All it does is encourage exploration, so I don't see any roblem with this.

there is no skill in dota compared to something like counterstrike or starcraft. Lol dota... give me a break. That game is for children.

Dota 2 isn't even a shooter, so comparing to... any FPS game, really, is irrelevant.

so im gonna take this as " i played dota once and i died alot" because i can tell you this, if dota is for children 1/ why did it just make over 10million in prize pool money for its championship surpasing real sporting events and 2/ if you look into dota, it takes ♥♥♥♥ loads of skills to play. it has 1 of the highs learning curve in almost any game i know. you can ask any serious gamer this question and they will all tell you the same answer.

Yes, but Dota 2 does not even fall under the "shooter" category. Why is Dota 2 relevant to these discussions?

You're right... Comparing even Counter-Strike to Quake is overkill for CS. That's why I'm a casual Quaker. :f2_happy:
Pro Quake players cant even be compared to "Pro COD players". Quake 3 is still a competetive standard for FPS for well over a decade. COD is an annual money cow that caters to people that cant dedicate themselves to becoming good at a game. Imagine if they updated the tech of Quake 3. COD is Activisions ♥♥♥♥♥♥ attempt at a Madden like franchise game, its sad that it sells as well as it does. I hope they do COD: APE FIGHTS next.
shelledfade Aug 13, 2014 @ 11:02am
in defense of cod, comparing two different games with two different styles of play is just plain stupidity. Every game is different, other than CoD which releases the same crap yearly and idiots keep buying.

It's like comparing starcraft 2 or 1 to warcraft 3, its idiotic, they're completely different games even though they're both rts.
