Crash on startup

Hi, I'm getting a crash on startup; the game immediately throws up a runtime exception. The traceback (below) is somewhat similar to what folks have experienced in the prior two crash threads in the forum, but in contrast I'm not able to start the game at all. I've tried several combinations of installing/re-installing/rebooting to no avail.
