Normally steam will do that randomly due to there not being steam cloud thanks to some weird form of steam bug in the steam system for the game but the save data should be there on your computer.

I'll find out its hard to find on win 7 an 8 with all the save files being scattered in many places.

Its misleading cuz the first folder is under a different name but here it is. C:\Users\<name>\AppData\Roaming\RenPy\Analogue
