Should I play the trilogy in chronological order?

I don't know whether I should play The Witcher 1 or 2. Is it nescecary to play the first two to understand trhe 3rd? Or is it just fun?

You can play from 3, there are few characters form previous games but you will understand all

the world of the witcher is based on books by Sapkowski. You dont need to play previous games to understand everything. Furthermore, IMO it wouldnt be THAT helpful as the story is so rich.

while waiting for the withcer 3 to download I played a bit of witcher 2, now I love the series :')
