current state of game VS upcoming adventure mode
Hi everybody.

I am a huge fan of the game right now, because it awards teamplay and has somewhat of a learning curve.

Now the direction of where the developers want to take this game has been published and I do not like it.
As of current its strictly PvP w/ focus on teamplay.
The way I read it this adventure mode is going to be mainly PvE, basically a totally different game.

Do you guys think that will bring more players?
PvE would be a dealbreaker for me, since the draw of this game is it's multiplayer alure ("Our team kicked your team's butt", communication).

Wouldn't it be better to first focus on improving the multiplayer experience that is offered right now? Read: Matchmaking is a major pain. Imo a combination of (sadly) not enough players (at least in europe) and a gui that is not the best. how can one sort for CP or DM?

Thanks for a superb game, that I'd love to become even better and get its deserved recognition by the gaming comunity.

Edit: Gerlish...

P.S. Read whole thread, if post comes off as a little harsh. Bubbles adresses my gripes below.

Without a doubt. I saw the video about adventure mode and I think it looks great.
then it will be a completely other game imo... PvE would loose me and I was wondering if others feel the same. My friends do, but that is not representative ;-)
From what I understand they are still working on improving skirmish mode as they move through adventure mode, definetely haven't given up on it for sure. As well Adventure mode will involve PvP elements too, so they are not just getting rid of skirmish. I just watched the newest Kickstarter video and one of the developpers literally said that adventure mode is a DLC for skirmish. So I have faith. If you haven't looked at it go check out the kickstarter campaign. There's no way you won't be able to see it as an imporvement after that....
I believe the way that the system is going to work is that if it does succeed and is released, it's an additional DLC that gives you another mode. So when you boot up the game, you can choose whether to play Skirmish (The current released one) or Adventure (the kickstarter one) mode. These will be independent of each other except in regards to cosmetics. However, they're never going to throw away Skirmish because they're working on this, it'll always stay, and they're still improving it. You and your friends can choose not to get the DLC and you'll still freely be able to play Skirmish.

Hi everyone, yeah we will be improving skirmish continuously to make it better and better. Also please keep in mind that a lot of the work we do for Adventure Mode will flow back into Skirmish to make it even better, and vice versa. Also, as numberfox mentioned, you will have the choice, as they are 2 different modes. So you can still choose to play Skirmish and not Adventure Mode. Hope this makes sense!
Thanks a lot, Howard
Thank you guys for your answers, with a special shout out to Bubbles and the Muse team :-)

I watched the kickstarter video and I heard him talking about the "cross-pollination" of the gaming modes. So I'm looking forward to new ships and ship balancing.

My worry is that the skirmish mode won't get the time anymore.

The GUI for matchfinding misses settings for the different game modes?

I don't know where the lag is coming from (my connection is fast enough from the pings on bf3) and I try to use our european servers as possible... This makes aiming exponentially difficult.

Furthermore I would love to see other crews on the enemy ships again (I heard it was enabled during beta? It used to much processing power as I heard).

Just my two cents. I really enjoy the game right now, especially good team play, and it pains me that there aren't more people playing.

Keep it up Muse! :-)

P.S. If you google the game from a german ip it shows a pretty unfair game review from 4players.de. It appears they haven't played the current version yet...

@Seb, actually for the concern of skirmish not getting our love, this I would say not to worry. We are small, so we actually don't have the luxury to create 2 modes independently. In other words, we have to try the best we can to reuse things as much as possible, because we can't afford not to. So we pretty much have to support skirmish by default :D

Hmmm, for lag, are you seeing fps drops or latency? If you can send us your log
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\guns of icarus online\GunsOfIcarusOnline_Data\output_log.txt

And also your specs (cpu, gpu, ram, vram, OS)

To feedback@musegames.com, we'll take a look for you asap.

And yeah great point. With more LOD and optimization work, we can allow people to see other crew. It'll take a bit of time, but we can get there.

With that review, it was a bit unfortunately. They reviewed the game in late beta. But we just have to take it in stride and keep improving.

Thanks so much! Howard
I actually just heard of this game due to the adventure mode. I'm not really a PvP kind of person but the adventure mode really sold me on the game.
How about keeping GOI:Online as the pvp game and the new one solely for pve? that way you don't need to balance everything to work for both..
Unless i'm mistaken and it's an update to the game.
Adventure mode is almost all pvp fights but you will somtimes fight mega sized bot ships or swarms of tiny bot planes. Atleast thats what I think they said.
@ Howard.

I sent you the email. Looking forward to the optimization work. Your good communication should be a reminder to your industry of how it should be done. (Sim City... I dont want to go there)
I wish you all the success!

@ Miki
Why would the PvE unbalance the PvP. The balance issue I see is with planes, thinking kamikaze.
The modes are already being kept seperate ;-)

Boss battles might be fun, especially to bring new players to the game and easing them in. It can get heated in PvE, communication is key and dont wack with the wrong tools as engy ;-)
i want a single player rpg mode too :P
Its not like Adventure mode will completely overrule your pvp gameplay, its just a dlc you can choose to buy or choose not to, but I think that it is a great idea, since here you also need to work together in teams to man you ship against AI. I just think that the information you have is rather incomplete.
well if you put GOI online and the old GOI you will understand how adventure mode works... I picture you have your ship and crew stationed at a town. its a free world to do what you want at the town and then go flying when you want. if you have a clan that is a pirate clan then you go raid those trade ships.... it really is a mmo/shooter/steampunk. they also said there will be raids on towns which means PvP and PvE put together. The game is going to be great once the whole game is launched.
