Has anyone ever seen trolls/greifers?
In my meager 9 hours of gameplay, I haven't seen one greifer, not including people who don't know how to play the game (like me) of course. the intermediate, pro and even novice communities (sometimes) looks awesome so far and I hope it stays that way, but do tell your experiences with trolls if you have any.

Captain, welcome to the community and I'm glad you are having such a good time. You will have trolls in every game, unfortunately. Thankfully though we do have a great community and with the players that have played for a long time, the Ca's and the Mods you tend to get only very short lived trolls. I've been in the game about 1.5yrs (2000+ matches) and you tend to see trolls most during times of sales. We will get a huge increase of players 1000+ during sale times (like the summer sale or winter sale on steam) and the players that troll tend to stay only a very short time. The troll behavior you might see are players staying double gunner, just sitting on guns and not firing even though they have shots or just completely not doing anything they are supposed to do. Now don't rule everyone that acts like this off as trolls because there are various of reasons this happens too including the lack of communication due to language barriers, new player that may not know whats going on, someone that doesn't have head phones in so cant hear or sometimes even lag. So if you are experiencing someone that you think is a troll try the 4 ways of communicating (verbal, crew chat, match chat and private message) if they don't respond you can always message a Ca, report them or just block them and not play with them again. There is a pretty low tolerance for trolling or any forms of -isms (sexism, racism, etc.) in this game.

In 21 hours of play I ran into just one. A gunner who sat around the ship and refused to man the guns. Among online games that is impressive. GOI has a friendly and helpful community and my experiences there have been enjoyable even if I am a terrible crewman.

I see trolls about once a week but i put in a lot of hours each week so that may not be an accurate assumtion for how often you will happen upon one.
Generally it is a person that refuses to do his/her job (fixing for engis, shooting for gunners, piloting for pilots) I find it is very easy to differentiate between trolls and players who don't ahve any idea what they are doing but sometimes I mistake one for the other :/ generally best to be patient before assuming that someone is a troll due to the common lag and communication issues people have in this game, Capital did a good job describing how to deal with them so i won't ramble. :P
As a rule i check in the lobby before each game if everyone in my crew can communicate and the easiest way for each crewman to do so, that way in game I can find out what is wrong on my ship when someone isn't doing their job. Also it isn't out of the question to ask if people speak english (or whatever your primary language is) when they don't respond, typically people will tell you if they don't after seeing you type something in english with their name in the sentence. Using the voice command things in game can help with language barriers as well, due to the fact they provide a visual que.
The community is clean and polite (mostly) the trolls do exist but you just block +/or report them

Seen about 4 griefers in my entire playtime, each was a low level claiming to not speak English and stood on the ship and stared at us fighting. Not trying to do anything, just standing.

Sadly Reporting a player does not do much to anything in this game.

The devs can check the chatlogs with a report. Also if someone gets lots of reports for ingamebehaviour, the devs will notice and probably ask mods to watch the player.

A hand full got allready a permabann. Most others stop after some short bans.

Like Terrkas mentioned, dev's watch those logs closely. Just because it may appear like "nothing" is happening to them doesn't mean nothing really is. The dev's are a great group or people and the mods as well and they don't want to ban someone unessesarily either. If they banned everyone that was reported we'd have no one in the game. Remember, if someone is really doing something that are against the rules of conduct report them and block them and if you continue to have problems find a CA or a Mod.

Trolling in the GOIO community is very low due to the team based nature of the game and the co-operative basis. People who are unwilling to assist their teams lose. A lot. This often discourages them and they leave. Also the community is highly self policing particularly with CAs. Players who exhibit trolling behavior will often be called out by multiple people in a lobby at once. This helps to limit trolling even further. The fact that this is a pay to play game also helps. You do need to watch out during sales however because of the massive influx but other then that I would say you should not have to worry too much. I have been playing for 1.5 years and my block list has only 4 people on it. ;)

I saw this guy russian guy once who would just use moonshine non stop, spinning in circles and ramming other ships. pretty accurate roleplay. other than that, not really. just verbal harassment

I think most players that fit into this category were going for specific achievements like hull rebuilds, so the team suffered. I think this happens a lot less now that achievements aren't required to level up.
