Spell targets will now be displayed while a spell is chanting as long as the original target is still alive.
Animations during some main menu operations have been shortened and response speed increased.
The Tips screen now clarifies that scanning requires the player to press and hold the button.
Fixed the issue wherein monster abilities could not be absorbed from the Cordycep fiend Lord of the Earth.
Fixed the issue wherein a technique with the Delay effect causing a United Attack to be broken would not properly take into account the number of units participating in the United Attack when recalculating the combo rate.
Fixed the issue wherein poison damage did not occur at the proper timing during an Overdrive.
Fixed an issue related to additional United Attacks when an Overdrive occurs.
Fixed an issue wherein monster abilities would not be absorbed when a Glimmer occurs during an Overkill.
Fixed an issue wherein an Overdrive occurring during an Unleash ability would cause the Unleashing creature to not participate in the Overdrive.
Removed abilities that cannot be absorbed from the Monster tech list.
Adjusted a misleading description in the Mr. S Trial It's Showtime.
Fixed the issue with the Mr. S Trial Unleash and Absorb wherein the trial would not be considered completed if an Unleash and Absorb occurred during a single Showstopper.
Increased the amount of combo rate increase provided by Chain attacks.
Adjusted the types of techs chosen for Overdrives.
Fixed an issue with conditional techs glimmered from Chain attacks.
Resolved the issue wherein a Showstopper could erroneously lead into a United Attack.
Fixed an issue wherein a character equipped with two different weapon types performing a Showstopper would have role effects specific to one type of weapon erroneously apply to techs performed by the other type of weapon.
(Ex. Dreadblayde Nobunaga applying instant death-level damage to non-two handed sword techs.)
Fixed an issue wherein The Final Trial during Tsunanori Mido's journey would erroneously occur immediately before the final boss.
Fixed various minor graphical issues.
Fixed various minor text issues.
Adjusted various UI display elements.
Added further support for keyboard and mouse controls.
- Shift + Mouse and the number pad may now be used to control the camera in areas where camera control is enabled.
Fixed other minor issues.

despite there being good things in this game, its an awful direction for the SaGa series IMO

The reason the game has haters is its lack of exploration, towns, NPCs, shops, and gear. Despite that there are many people who love the game for its battle system and other mechanics. What I dont understand is why the developer doesnt want to cater to both? Having real exploration or towns or items or NPCs, can all exist without diminishing all of the things Emerald lovers enjoy about the game. Best Monster Techs

What Monster Techs have you found indispensable so far? I find some of the cheaper Interrupts on Monsters are pretty good. Capriciousness is an excellent Interrupt with a little bonus Quell if you are Interrupting an Interrupt, and Reversal Stench comes in handy for being cheap (1 BP) and also able to dissolve an enemy combo if the farts land. I'd like to know if the game is woke and/or censored in any way? I've had to refund or remove like 10 games this year from my wishlist cause of this nonsense.

I hate to do this as a long time SaGa fan, but I can't fully recommend this game. While I'm happy with the return of race mechanics and seeing Scarlet Grace's combat mechanics expanded upon... that about ends my pros for the game.

Gone are the good old days of getting lost in an open world. Emerald Beyond takes on a much more linear and restricted approach. Traveling from one contained world to the next, each filled with an unsatisfying story which ends abruptly. The developers wanted to make every playthrough feel unique with varying outcomes, but the result feels more like a collection of barebones unrelated filler from a television show.

The upgrade mechanics just adds to the games feeling of tedium. You're essentially restricted to the whims of an RNG trading shop which you must check after ever battle. And I don't even want to start with this horrendous UI they cobbled together. Please don't make me click through multiple menus just to check this RNG shop every couple of minutes.

At the moment I'm not sure I would recommend this game to even a die hard SaGa fan. My best recommendation is to try the demo out for yourself and perhaps wait for a sale.

This is a game that looks cheap, feels cheap and shouldn't be $50. It is a poor showing from a developer and director that I know is capable of better. As a longtime SaGa fan, I had never imagined I'd see an entry in the series with so few of the series' core pillars. But Emerald Beyond never fails to impress with its complete disregard of its series roots.

The combat is a tactical affair where you are meant to manipulate turn order, utilize interrupts and most of all mitigate damage. This is fine on paper, but the mechanics are so sloppy and so riddled with RNG that none of this works correctly. You will often have turns where there legitimately is nothing you can do but eat multiple AoEs, and your only hope is to prevent them from comboing or--god forbid--getting a showstopper.

Even when you do everything right, RNG will somehow turn that wrong. And without healing (there is no healing in this game) defensive play is basically impossible. You want to get rid of threats as quickly as possible, before they inevitably eat through your limited HP.

All of this is in service to a story that is at once nonsensical. Sometimes it is charming. Most of the time it is simply confusing and ultimately, you feel like you have wasted your time.

This entire game is a waste of time. I never thought I'd see a game so effectively vie for the throne of worst SaGa after the PS2 era, but it looks like Square Enix has managed it. Great job, guys.

Excellent SA.GA game, hope that Square remasters Frontier 2 next, this is for who wants RPGs hardcore and battle focused, this battle system is extremely dynamic, fun and addicting, please SQUARE focus on more turn based games like this, I love ARPGs but not every game needs to be one

To celebrate the launch of the game, the SaGa Emerald Beyond developers came together to answer some of the communities hottest question in an interview style Q&A.

Is there any connection between the characters and setting of SaGa Emerald Beyond and past SaGa games?
Series mainstays such as Glimmers and United Attacks are still present in SaGa Emerald Beyond, but there’s no connection in terms of the story and setting. Having said that, there might be some places that hit a little harder if you’ve played a title from the SaGa series before.

Can you still enjoy SaGa Emerald Beyond without having played any other SaGa games?
Yes - since there’s no connection to other titles in the series, you don’t need to have played any other SaGa games to enjoy Emerald Beyond.
There’s a demo available as well, so in case you’re unsure about this type of game, you could to start by playing the demo first.

Which protagonist would you recommend for newcomers to the SaGa franchise, and which would you recommend for experts?
Tsunanori Mido is fairly easy to get to grips with if you are new to all the different systems of SaGa.
Whereas Bonnie and Formina might be more fun to play if you are already well versed in the series or after you’ve explored lots of different worlds with the other characters of SaGa Emerald Beyond, but if you like a challenge, of course there’s no problem with picking them first!

Do you have any tips for the battles?
The trick to having a successful battle is to connect the combo range of each individual tech.
In the beginning, just focus on trying to connect the green lines above all else. On top of that, it’s also important to try and disrupt enemy United Attacks.

What kind of play time should I expect?
Starting with either of the 5 sets of protagonists, it takes a good few hours - around 10 - to reach your very first ending.
Each of the lead characters has a vastly different story and we developed the game in a way that you will never experience exactly the same thing twice. The story and ending will be different for each player, each playthrough - so play time can basically be infinite!

Are you planning any DLC?
We don’t have any plans for DLC - but rest assured, there’s already plenty of content in SaGa Emerald Beyond.

Even for SaGa standards, this game is quite the divisive one, huh?

When I say divisive, i don't just mean "mostly fantastic but there's a few chuds who want to feel unique hating it" or "mostly bad but there are a couple masochists who can find joy in bad media". I mean that I cannot find a single doubled-up opinion on this game, to the point that I have no idea if any of us are playing the same game. Do playable characters learn unique attacks/abilities or glimmers? What I mean is will every character learn the same weapon attacks and magic and thats it, or are there special moves for each?
