Please try completely removing Steam and re-installing. You may want to print out these instructions for quick reference.
1. Write down your Steam Account name and password - you will need them to log back into Steam once you have reinstalled
2. Logout of Steam
3. Exit Steam
4. If you currently have any Steam games installed that you would like to keep, please copy the Steamapps folder from C:\Program Files\Steam to your desktop or another directory.
5. Delete the Steam folder in the default location C:\Program Files\Steam
6. Hit windows key + r ( run at the start menu ) and type regedit
7. Delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Valve (or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Valve on 64-bit Windows)
8. Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from the following link: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html
9. Run Windows Install Clean Up from the Start menu.
10. Select Steam from the list. The list is only partially in alphabetical order, so be sure to check carefully.
11. Select Remove.
12. Select OK.
13. Reboot your computer.
14. Download and install a fresh copy of the Steam installer from http://store.steampowered.com/about/
15. Run the installer and re-test the Steam client.
Here's how I got it working:
1. Installed latest AMD Catalyst Drivers for Radeon HD 7000, HD 6000 and HD 5000 Series (12.10) - http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx
2. F1 2012 kept crashing, so I tried installing the latest beta driver for my card (12.11 - Beta8 - w/ .NET4 support) - http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalyst1211betadriver.aspx
3. During the beta driver installation, my computer crashed (blue screen). Restarted Boot Camp on Windows 7 Safe Mode.
4. On Safe Mode, went to Control Panel > System > Device Manager. Your graphics card should appear on section "Display adapters" (only one appears for me). Right clicked on it and selected "Uninstall".
5. Still on the device manager window, went to menu "Action" and selected "Scan for hardware changes". That reinstalled the default driver for my graphics card.
6. Rebooted Boot Camp with default Windows 7 start up.
7. Opened Windows Explorer's folder Documents/My Games/FormulaOne2012/hardwaresettings and deleted files hardware_settings_config.xml and hardware_settings_info.xml (Don't worry, F1 2012 will reinstall them when it starts up. It might be a good idea to backup those two files, just in case).
8. Entered Steam and tried playing the game. It miraculously worked!
I'm not suggesting that you crash your computer for good results, but maybe if you just try installing the lastest graphics driver (Step 1 in my case), then going to Control Panel and following steps 4 through 7, it might work. I would first try it without rebooting the computer, and then rebooting.
Hope I was able to help someone to play the game. I'm glad I can now.
Cheers.
