game freezes my computer when I launch it

Hi bought the game yesterday but everytime I try to play it, the little steam window appears that its starting the game then it disappears and my computer completetly freezes, I can't press alt+cntrl+del, nothing, my computer simply freezes.

I've already tried redownloading the game, I've veryfied the integrity of the game cache, I have the latest driver from nvidia, and I've also tried running the game as an administrator. nothing works what can I do?

I think a PC component is overclocked and this could also be the issue.

Yeah, having exactly the same issue, please post if you know how to resolve it, I have all the necessary specs and am running current drivers.

ermm I dont have a problem with steam runnning compatability mode, but thanks for trying

Cool Citrus - do you have this issue with any other game? or just F1 2012?

Go to Help in steam and check your system information and see what operating system version steam is running. I have vista and steam was saying i was running windows XP. I changed this and it was fixed.

ok so apperantly steam did think i was running xp, anyhow i followed the instructions on that link, and it worked, thanks a bunch :)

I've had this issue for ages and I know that it sounds stupid, but I managed to solve it by disabling my antivirus (I'm using Avast!)
