Can't load a saved game.

I am at like 250 turns with a large empire and well over dominated victory conditions on several aspects. I saved the game and closed out and now it crashes... Is there a way to fix this or is it lost to me?

I've had this problem with lategame saves a few times and there is a way to get round it. First thing you do is make sure you have a save game from way earlier when the galaxy was a simpler place (autosave is not your friend!). Load this early one up, then try loading your current save. I don't know why this works but hopefully it will work for you.
