Question About Weapon Ranges
If a ship only has one weapon, and it's calibrated for use at long range, does that mean that the ship is unable to fire at medium range and kinetic range? I'm sorry if this sounds stupid.

It fire during all ranges but is most effective at the specified range.

Weapons are far less accurate outside of their intended range. Each weapon gets progressively more-powerful as the range is decreased, but even long-ranged weapons are powerful enough to obliterate ships one-on-one in just the long range phase, depending on the number of defenses and armor modules mounted.

Strongly recommend exclusive or near-exclusive use of LR kinetics; under rare circumstances, I might advise MR beams, LR beams, Melee kinetics, or LR missiles. Kinetics fire 4 times per phase (4 rounds per phase, 3 phases in a battle) and hit immediately, beams fire twice per phase and take 1 round to hit, and missiles only fire once per phase and take 3 rounds to hit.
(LR = long ranged, MR = medium ranged)
Accuracy and damage get a -50% penalty outside their optimal range

edit: the 50% penalty only counts for damage, accuracy is working as usual (I dont have the numbers at hand but I know I hit like crap whenever I m out of my optimzed range hehe)

According to the wiki[endlessspace.wikia.com], long-range weapons have only 25% of their rated accuracy (a 75% penalty) outside the LR phase, medium-range weapons have 33% accuracy out-of-phase, and melee weapons have 10% accuracy out-of-phase.

I could swear I read the flat 50% reduction in a patch note but unfortunately I am unable to find it so I ll stop using this information until I can confirm it.

That was actually from your source, on a 3x3 table. I thought the same thing MTB Fritz thought until you sent that.

Ah, you're reading the table backwards. It has weapon ranges along the top and battle phases along the left.

Check the release notes for 1.1.27
Added a reduction on damage for weapon which are not firing during their range speciality: -50% damage

But yeah, I still come across things on Wiki that difer to my personal experience and as more often then not Wiki entries has proven to be wrong I only use it for the things I m 100% sure are right and trust my gut in the other cases. Never trust a chart you didnt do yourself or which isnt from the devs :spacemonster:
