old tunnels lvl 2

im stuck on lvl 2 of old tunnels. there is a square room with a save crystal and three grateted doors 2 have pull chains and one has 2 locks one on either side i went to the left killed three flying critters opened three different doors and found only one brass key. i went into the right grated door and found a wall button that does absolutely nothing when i push it the teleporting mist just pushes me back to where i entered it. i did use the brass key on the left lock same side i found it in relation to the locked door ..... help me what am i missing ive tried all i can think of

You have to push the button then quickly back up (the button makes the portal go away). I had to try this multiple times and it finally worked. Was annoying, I thought I was doing the wrong thing until it finally worked once.
