Failed to initialize steam

i really want to play this game but i can't so much as get a splash screen. please help. the error i keep getting is "Failed to initialize steam"

turn your computer off and on again , if that doesnt work maybe try reinstalling airmech

i restart my computer every day. and i tried to re install airmech. and it didn't work.

I've never seen this message come up where a Steam restart (whole computer is unneeded) didn't fix it. All your other Steam games work fine?
