No idea- all I do know is that when the game loads- the load calls try to open the save in a non existing directory with "save" as the title instead of "SAVE"- the rest of the game has it as SAVE though so the saving and load menus work- it's the actual act of loading itself where things go wonky. It can't find anything so it loads nothing and thus starts the game over.
While Windows itself isn't so picky about case sensitivity- many other programs are just because of the nature of ASCII.
Basically it seems the porting team made a typo in one of the updates and didn't realize it was a problem before pushing the update.

Oh hey- nice coincidence there. Guess we both thought to compare the crack to the official release then huh?
Goog job man! ;)
Thanks man
You might have edited the wrong string. If you mess with any other part of the executable you'll probably break the game.
No problem, glad I could be of help. It's way better than using an illegal crack to fix an issue which shouldn't be an issue in the first place. Enjoy JSR.
