PSA: How to fix Saving/Loading (Downloadable Fix)

Having Saving/Loading problems? This just might help you.
Previously this issue seemed extremely prevelant, although it seems significantly less common now. Only apply this fix if you are experiencing trouble with saving.

The game itself is able to save your game (which it does automatically) However, it won't load saved games properly once the game is restarted, and will instead start you a new game. Should you actually play on that new game- your save will be overwritten.

The good news is that you can fix it fairly easily, right now by downloading this fix.

Just Download, Unzip and copy jetsetradio.exe over to your steam install.

Don't wanna download it? Here's how to fix the bug yourself manually:

1. Open the install folder for the game and open jetsetradio.exe with your favorite Hex Editor

2. Use your hex editors "Goto" option to locate the offset "21D80C".
3. At that offset the word "save" will be located on the ASCII side of your editor.
4. Write "SAVE" over it (The difference is in the capitialization if you couldn't tell)
5. Save the file, and there ya go- save bug fixed.[/quote]

Enjoy Jet Set Radio everyone- hopefully Sega will fix this someday so we don't have to do it ourselves like this. But until then, hopefully this'll help. Maybe someday Steam will see Jet Set Radio Future if Sega would wise up a bit.

This is how I fixed it yesterday. I can't believe they could make a mistake like this. Are there conditions for this happening? Like having an AMD cpu or something? Because my friend's versions works fine.

No idea- all I do know is that when the game loads- the load calls try to open the save in a non existing directory with "save" as the title instead of "SAVE"- the rest of the game has it as SAVE though so the saving and load menus work- it's the actual act of loading itself where things go wonky. It can't find anything so it loads nothing and thus starts the game over.

While Windows itself isn't so picky about case sensitivity- many other programs are just because of the nature of ASCII.

Basically it seems the porting team made a typo in one of the updates and didn't realize it was a problem before pushing the update.

I tried this and it crashes my game after the keybinding setup screen that launches pre opening the actual game.

You might have edited the wrong string. If you mess with any other part of the executable you'll probably break the game.

_SYS........save . this is what it says on the line I am editing using the go to funtion on HXD

still doesnt work when I change it to _SYS........SAVE. Is the place where save is the same for everyone, if so it would be convineint to know what it says if im getting it wrong or if it's my computer. Even though I can run it without the hex files being edited.

Never mind I directly opened the exe from the folder instead of from steam and it works like a charm. Thanks for finding a fix!
