Character Limit for FTP
Just started yesterday and have a lvl 10 Monk named for my "back in the day" Iksar Monk. It appears you can only have TWO toons unless you want to pay a subscription fee--right? Can you have two toons per server, or is that not possible? Would rather have all chars on same server, but don't really want to pay $10/month for that priveledge...

I found you can have 2 per server. FTP can buy 3 additional slots per server for the equivalent of about $25 in game currency. It is 800 of the game currency (forget the name), for one slot, and you can buy 2500 for $25 as I recall...

Now I am wondering what is the best way to get additional slots. As shown above, I could get 3 additional slots for $25, but All Access for one month is about $14, and that gives you 8 slots total, or 6 additional slots over FTP. What I don't know is what happens after the month is over. I suspect you won't be able to access any new toons beyond the two you get with FTP, but not sure about it. Does anyone know what happens to additional chars if you buy a month and then let it lapse?

This all depends on the account and how old it is. About a year ago this trick worked for both of my accounts, although after I came back to the game to prep for the time lock progression server one account (my newer one, approximately 3 or 4 years old) would only allow me to access 4 characters (all low level, my higher level ones were locked). I ended up having to delete the low level ones just to access my real chars. Interestingly, even though both accounts were grandfathered into "silver" status, the oldest of my accounts (activated in 2000) still allows me to log into all characters. Not sure why this happens but hope this helps :happymeat: !

I played for several years back when EQ was just starting--left with a stable of maxed out characters (lvl 65 I think it was then)--but just started a different FTP account a week or so ago from scratch. I really don't want an ongoing subscription fee, but would like more than two chars. I guess I could make a couple more on another server, but it is nice to have all your toons in one place. So was just wondering if buying one month of all access would allow me to keep any character slots over two, but I doubt it...

Misterbill, you do drop down to a limited character amount but i do believe its higher then 2 if you have had a all access acount at sometime. Im not ftp though so i cant confirm that and wont be anytime soon as i want to play on Ragefire when it releases tomorrow.

Though if you are coming back i might suggest subbing and joining the ragefire launch tomorrow. Its starting out with only the classic expansion unlocked, a large low level pop, and will be more social then just moloing through the lower levels.

Wow that Ragefire does sound interesting! When you say Classic Expansion, is that just the original EQ or if not, what expansions are in it? Will they add in the other expansions over time or will it be "frozen in time"? It IS a bit lonesome with just your Merc companion to talk to...heh

BTW, I bought enough game money to add three toons to the two you get on FTP...

Ragefire is classic with no expansions added. aprox every 6 months a new expansion will be unlocked until the server catches up to current or dies. Its a great way to get into the game without having to worry about mercenaries and a overly heavy endgame pop. Especially as of now the average player is only level 1-6

Sounds like a great idea! Thanks for the info...It would be pretty cool to play it as I did all those years ago!

If you pay 5 bucks you will get a silver account allowing 4 chars. When playing regularly you collect loyalty points. With those you can buy up to 3 more character slots.

Ahhh...thanks! I thought the Silver membership was something from before FTP...I already bought one extra slot, so I hope buying Silver gets me to a max of 5 per server...Also found out that us poor ol' FTP players can NOT access the progression server...heh...

Just check to see if Ragefire is up and running. Did not see it, when is it supposed to be up? Heard that it is up.
misterbill5 May 22, 2015 @ 10:31am
I heard it was up but they had problems that caused it to be shut down again. You can check server status on their website...
Also, from what I was able to determine, Silver Memberships are no longer available with the advent of FTP...I could find no way to purchase one, and I saw a dev comment to the effect that they did away with them...So I can still add slots for 800 Daybreak Cash (or whatever they call it) each.
Rycharde May 22, 2015 @ 7:13pm
So, I take it that you have to have All Access to get on Ragefire?
misterbill5 May 22, 2015 @ 9:40pm
That is what I understand. I asked that question in general chat before logging on, and that is what I was told. No progression server if you are a humble FTP player like me...heh
