This game made me finally start playing the bass I'd had for 2 years and touched maybe twice. It's so insanely fun. To be completely honest, it's abilities as a teacher may be a little overhyped. I'm not an amazing bassist now. Its real strength is just getting you to play. And keep playing. And playing. A practice motivationizer (that's a word now).
Or maybe I'm just a bad student and you'll learn just as easily as the marketing says. I played saxophone for a really long time before I decided I wanted to rock out hard. Turns out that playing a horn didn't prep me very well for a stringed instrument.
As for the game itself, it does suffer a bit from relatively minor issues like input lag (minor AFTER setting your game up properly - google it/check out the official forums for the in-depth settings guides), clunky interface and menu layout, but honestly as a complete package I think it's better than 2014. It's just more fun, and a better design. Playing events with a photo realistic crowd is a blast. Unfortunately this one is not supported anymore, so if you want new music and the latency improvements, you're forced to 2014.
