Max Payne 3 Hangs on Initializing...

I just went to play some MP3 and Steam popped up a message saying it had to convert the game content to a more efficient format. Once that was done, I started the game and now it freezes on the initializing screen. This game worked flawlessly before. Anyone have an idea what going on? Thanks

Press 'Home', link your Steam and Rockstar Social Club accounts, activate your Steam key, and hopefully that will solve the problem - it's what worked for me.

Yeah I read that in another thread and it didn't work. Pressing home didn't do anything for me. Thanks though

This worked. Hit 'Home' key, register on Social, and RESTART afterwards, you have to restart.

Yeah, still didn't work for me. Its ok though, with all these steam sales I have too many games to keep me busy! :) I was mainly into MP3 for the story and I think I was close to finishing it. Found this youtube video that put the cutscenes together so at least I got to see how the story ended up. http://youtu.be/ZeaWBINtmVU

Ok I had the same problems....read in the Walking Dead topics, where I also had a problem, and found that you need to disconnect your xbox 360 controller....if you have one, and I did. That worked for Walking Dead and so I tried on some of the other games, including this one, and it worked for most of them. I still had to hit the "home " key, but it worked after disconnecting the controller. Before that, hitting the "home " key did nothing. Anyway, if you have a 360 controller, you might try disconnecting it...btw I'm running windows 8.

Seems like the culprit is xboxstat.exe DISABLE IT! Then everything should work on Windows 8!

Well the solutions proposed almost worked for me, I've found out that further than installing social club from max payne folder I had also to log in rockstar social club website and update some information, after that I was able to link my account and enter game key then it worked

If anyone still have problems, I think I have found the problem. Netframe and DirectX is not working well together. Every time the PC switches between DirectX versions, the PC sometimes freezes. This is what I did. Installed WinAmp. Started the visualization Milkdrop, and set it to higest resolution, and all effects in full. Ran music and Milkdrop. Waited till the screen flickered black, and the picture came back. Now the Windows system should be set to full access in DirectX again. Anyway.... Worked for me.

9iGuys I Just got my issue fixed, If you don't have the social club go to the rockstar website and install. Then before you start the game log in to your social club account via a browser and make sure all your information is updated (I'd never done this because i'd signed into the social club on xbox and they needed more information now) then once you've updated your account.

1.Start game
2. at title screen hit home button
3. Login with Rockstar social club info
4. hit enter, should work.

Let me know if this solves any of your problems, i'd been working on this for three days. I could get the social club to come up but then it would just sit there spinning trying to log in.
