The controls are clumsy because you are button mashing.
Im still in the prolog and I just discoverd this!! The ez mode of ez mode
The controls are clumsy, especially in the beginning when you have no moves.
Just get further in the game Tor-Erik*, its clumsy but you eventually get skills that let you move around a bit like the forward slash and the tumble slash that make it easier maneuver around enemies, attack and counter. Also, when you get allies, it gets easier too.
There is no cure for falling of ledges though, this should be a calculated risk.
Further in the game? I'm sorry but I'm through with the entire game, I'm at the section where zombies invade chatreu or w.e. that posh city is called. I have encountered zero problems with combat due to my ability to adapt to the frame delay in the combos. Street fighter uses a similar timed delay on the button presses to deter people from rolling their face on to the gamepad and expect results.
Edit: Also. Use spoiler. Where do you think you are?
Welcome to dark souls.
