Game lags on spells

Whenever a creature or the player casts a spell my system slows down MASSIVELY then resumes at normal pace. I don't have dual montiors and my system (Core 2 Duo 4GB ram 7850 Card) has more than enough resources to run it. How do I fix this problem has anyone else come with this issue? Thanks!

I'm having a similar issue, when to many particles, 8 GB of ram, i5 3570k HD Radeon 5670 512MB videocard. I am currently using only 10% of my cpu, and less than 30% of my available ram or resource. Could a larger pagefile solve this issue? My current one is set at 200 mb. Which is significantly small, but I use a SSD.

I figured it out disable VRAM and problem goes away. I'm not sure why it would cause the problem seeing how the game isn't very demanding. Hope this helps!
