What is the max number of ships you can have in a game?

How many ships can you have in a game, are there any bigger maps where you can have a few more ships?

You can have a few ships.

Up to 8 per fleet. Each player has a fleet on a 2v2 you can have up to 32 ships but I have never seen this. It is about 4 to 6 in the large fleets.
