pirate hunting

I was wondering when I should go pirate hunting and which ship I should use?

Depends what kind of ships you are after. I use pirate carrack with plasma beam cannons for pretty much everything.

Most ships with weapons are fine as long as you dont bite off more than you can chew.

And try to get a jump drive to jump away when the going gets rough.

thanks for the tip. Right now I just need an escorct. pirate and xenon activity is skyrocting. I am not ready for pirate hunting. My ranks is not high enough for a law enforcment license.

A police license doesnt help when killing pirates in pirate sectors.
Also, pirates are a great way to reach higher ranks.

thanks I will keep that in mind I just armed my new fighter with it's first missles. Actually this small fighter is not that bad.

Best fighter is spitfire, ~450 m/s plus good guns, best overall is springblosom (M6) great guns + spector missiles also 360 m/s still very fast. get them just off alidrin . good to have ship which can carry other ships equiped with jump drive to get them safety out.

If you're still friendly with yaki, or do missions for them. Yaki space is a great place. Regular pirates will spawn around there and not to far to the east past a few pyanid sectors is more pirate active areas.

Salvage spur has opptunity for profits and free ships. Yaki/Pyanid always fighting there and people tend to bail a lot. Just pop sat and keep eye out for astronauts(indication might be a ship you can claim and repair) and missles/cargo to pick up.

I always go there in new games rather early and get sat up and keep watch. Which in my current new game, I did just that and got Susonwa and some other ship and missles which I sold. Keeping Susonwa till I get Tenjin. Yaki shipyard has some fairly good ships. Susonwa is slightly like the Nova, Tenjin is a very good fighter.

You also mention you want to hunt pirates. Chokora(small 3 hangar carrier) is amazing just for that. And best of all, it's very cheap. My Susonwa and a discovery are currently docked on it. It always has a lot of space for E-Cells, Missiles, Drones and random goods I find to sell.
I use discovery for mineral scan missions and illegal good sells

Spitfire and Springblossom are easy mode.
I consider the Spit to be a small M6 and the Springblossom to be a small M7. Small, cheap, lower firepower, and WAY more speed.
I simply dont use them because its too easy.

Spitfires are fantastic strike fighters, just load them with MAML and send them at a Q then watch the fireworks lol

I don't know the argon buster seems to pack quite a punch.

M4s are usually bad imo. Only usefull if you cant afford an M3.
Remember what I said earlier? Outrun what you cant outfight?
Well, look at the speed of the Mamba Raider, and then at the speed of nearly all M4s. I think the only one you can buy that is faster than the Mamba Raider is the Scorpion Raider.
Granted, you wont usuall fight fully upgraded Mambas, but, if you can afford it, fast M3 > normal M4.
So you'll prob want to stick with your Buster right until you can buy an M3. Wether its a Nova, Mamba, or whatever is mostly personal preference.

Sometimes I enjoy sticking about 10 MX3 Drones at the pirates...watching them being eaten up by those is better than them jumping out (running) when I come attacking them...

right now I am eying a small Argon Elite I hope to get a Aargon Nova at some point and maybe a large buster to escort my ship. I really don't have the resoucses to hunt pirtate at this time. I could bearly affored my new merchant ship.
