The synergies mod change quite some things to the game and if you start to play already with that mod without having played the original then you don't know how it originally looked liked. Besides, it is always a good idea to first become familiar with a game.
As for installation of the particular mod: since it is now supported for workshop you install it through there. You have first to sign up , then run the game and select from the new launcher to play with mods. Then tick the box next to the mod and hit the play button in the screen.
So how about if you already finished it and you are level 65? Can I use my existing character in the mod? I had to create a new character in Synergies mod.
edit. nevermind i guess you can use your existing character minus any mods. http://forums.synergiesmod.com/index.php?topic=1851.0
