Story wise it's just strange. There's no explanation on anything; What was the prince doing when he found Elika? Where is Elika from exactly? Where did she get her power? Why isn't the prince even remotely amazed by what she can do? It's all very vague and a lot of it does not even make sense.
What I do think is pretty good is the art style. It looks nice.
I definitely have to disagree with most of this. How much of the game did you actually play through and did you spend time listening to all of their conversations? Because most of what you mentioned is actually touched on through interactions and adaption to gameplay.
The combat, while basic, isn't that difficult to learn. It's not much different than most quick time events in other games. The player just learns the patterns and techniques of the enemies and reacts accordingly. It mostly reminded me of the first Assassin's Creed in the repatative stages, but it progresses smoothly and it really isn't THAT long of a game once the game gets the plot moving. I completed my gameplay in less than a day of fairly consecutive play.
And the story is mostly explained through their dialogue and how much the player actually invests themselves into letting them converse by talking with Elika. She explains her home and how she was raised. The inhabitants of her land, as well as why they all began to leave. The prince is also hinted at to be an bucaneer of sorts. A travelling thief just making a living — Including WHY he started being that way. I suppose it's up to the player to interpret the details, but the point was to make him mysterious and 'it doesn't matter' considering his attitude of 'going with the flow'.
It really is a great artistic style and doesn't seem to deserve a lot of the crap it really gets. It's not a bad game, just like how Assassin's Creed wasn't a bad game. It was trying something a little new from it's ancestor games. So, either you like it for what it is or dislike it for what it isn't. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, but I definitely recommend playing through it to it's intended extent before judging it! :)

Movement system that is drastically simplied *control wise* compared to any other PC Prince of Persia title. -To say it's jaring between them is an understatment. The other titles had similar control scemes for movement system, to include wall sliding/climbing/jumping, ledge movements-

Picky as hell on TV monitors.
Camera control can screw you over at times, and hide your character behind a pillar while fighting some person.

The only reason I've not demanded a refund (even for the sell price) is the story is interesting, and some of the dialog is really intersting to hear, while not being bugged or sluggish on my system*
For bad combat in PoP games the Forgotten Sands have the crown, PoP2008 had very nice combat.

The system is quite complicated with different types of combos and chaining points to weave on combo into the next.
Next thing is, if you die/screw up in PoP2008 you will not get the annoying loading screen, but the fight you are currently in will still start from the beginning. The consequences of failure are literally the same as in the other pop games, the difference is just the way the transiation is handled.
For the story, Elika is from the town the prince finds, it is explained about 2 hours long in the dialogs that Elika and the Prince have. As well the prince was amazed at first from the powers of Elika, but once he and you get used to it the whole thing becomes business as usual, which makes imho complettly sense in the context of the story. Even more so with the character traits that this special prince has.
But I have anyway the generall feeling that game was for many on one hand to easy to play and to complicated to get on the other hand.
Oh and that is on purpose, you can gather seeds that way to open up a new seal.
I will denial anything else, because that patch work DLC to comfort whiny ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks donkey ass.
The orginal ending was perfect, the perfect ending for that classic drama. But it got so much fire from the kids that Ubisoft thought it would be a wise idea to patch the ending to something complettly different. Screw you Ubisoft!
